do it on your own risk, it worked for me maybe it will work for you too
Step 1 : PREPARING YOUR MOBILE FOR ROOTING
1. go to settings-> applications -> development
turn the USB DEBUGGING MODE ON
2. go to settings-> sd card, usb mass storage & phone storage

it may happen you wont be successful on first try. but give it time like 5mins if nothing happens close superoneclick, disconnect your phone and connect it again and try again. it will surely work

before I let you through the unrooting thing I want to show you something.
after rooting your phone you will see a new application installed in your phone SUPERUSER
this application helps you to ask permission for root access if any application will be trying to access your root.
when I first UNROOTED my phone I was kinda puzzled to see the SUPERUSER application was still there and there was no way to remove it (no uninstall option as you've with your built in applications)
but than I searched the net and saw few tutorials and sorted my way back.
STEP 1 :
Removal of SUPERUSER
Quote:
THIS HAS TO BE DONE BEFORE UNROOTING
I used a application named "ROOT EXPLORER" which is like a file manager
1. go to system->app
there you'll find superuser.apk
now make sure you've clicked mount r/w i.e. read/write (this option will only come after rooting your phone)
after clicking mount r/w, read/write access will be activated and r/o will be deactivated as shown in the figure
2. delete superuser.apk
STEP 2 :
UNROOTING BEGINS
1. download Superoneclick (attached)
this is the new version it will have UNROOT option
CLICK THUMBNAIL TO SEE FULL IMAGE
2. Connect your phone (debug on, sd card unmounted)
3. Click on UNROOT
4. as you've removed super user it will show this error
CLICK THUMBNAIL TO SEE FULL IMAGE
IGNORE IT
5. the process will continue and will stop at this point
CLICK THUMBNAIL TO SEE FULL IMAGE
6. CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE UNROOTED YOUR PHONE
STEP 3 :
CHECKING IF YOUR PHONE IS UNROOTED OR NOT
just open rootexplorer and you'll see the screen as below
the r/w access is GONE now you can only r/o (read only) your files

Only if you want to remove, for instance, the trials game that came with the X8 and already expired. I would like to remove them, but I don't want to play with rooting, for now!
i think, if you want to remove some game or application, you can install "uninstall application" from the market. then you can choose by them to delete anything you want.
that is the way if you dont want to take a risk by rooting something on your phone.
I don't know as I never rooted mine... But I guess it's something like the procedure that suhel28 wrote on post #2.
In "STEP 1 : Removal of SUPERUSER", instead of removing superuser.apk I guess it will be something like <name_of_application>.apk. But since I'm not sure, please wait for someone who really knows how to do it.
And, in my opinion the biggest reason of all, with Bluetooth File Transfer and a rooted X8 you can recieve files via bluetooth from any device (or at least that it what they say).
Before rooting it I first want the upgrade to 2.1, and while waiting for the root method to be uncovered I'l decide if I need it or not.
Well by rooting you can remove stock applications and games freeing up space on your phone
Some applications work only on rooted phone for e.g. titanium backup etc.
X8 is still new and as it grows older lots of few things will come at your doorstep but those things would ask you for a rooted phone :-)
For now there is nothing much you can do but in future it would be immensely HELPFUL :-) :-)

ACCORDING. To my knowledge the rooting procedure would remain same whether its 1. 6 or 2.1

Damn.Thanks.I ll have to try rooting later...
Just waiting for the 2.1 for now.
N.
if you've space issues 2.1 won't help you cuz it would upgrade your software not hardware so the internal phone memory will remain the same irrespective of the firmware version.. also app2sd is only on froyo and 2.1 is not froyo.. you will have to root ur phone sooner or later ^^.

I havent updated my phone yet and so I havent done rooting yet..
stock apps I've deleted are roadsync & all the 4games
rest of the applications are quite useful and i would not advise you to delete any application atleast any google application..
anyways if you use titanium backup u can always get them back
and if worse you havent backed up
you can connect your phone to pc and use pc companion to repair your phone as simple as that

You don't mention what location you are in and what carrier. The market is not available in certain locations but why you should have it and it then dissappear I don't know.
im here in middle east. i bought the x8 1.6 and found out there's no android market. so i installed it by root. then when i updated to 2.1 the android market was gone again.
I already have the market.apk, im just waiting for the Root for X8 2.1
