Superboot is a boot.img that when flashed, will root your device the first time you boot (installing su and the superuser APK). No need to flash the system partition, no need to use ADB, no messing with the contents of your data partition, no overwriting the shipped ROM on your device, just flash the boot image using the instructions below and you're done!

How to use Superboot - Mac, Linux and OSX

- Download the Superboot zip file and extract to a directory
- Put your device in bootloader mode - turn if off, then tap the powerbutton while holding the 'Volume Down' and 'End (Red)' keys
- WINDOWS - double click 'install-superboot-windows.bat'
- MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh' followed by './install-superboot-mac.sh'
- LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh' followed by './install-superboot-linux.sh'

That's it, job done! Enjoy!

This is a custom recovery image based on Cyanogen's v1.4 recovery. The purpose of this recovery is to avoid using adb by accessing all features directly from the menu.

Features include:

full ADB access in recovery mode
Busybox
Extended menu (with keyboard-shortcuts):
- Nandroid v2.2 backup and restore
- Regular update.zip flash
- Flash any .zip from your SD-card
- Wipe data + cache (factory reset)
- Wipe ext partition on SD-card
- Wipe Dalvik-cache on SD-card (NOT on /data !)
- Partition SD-card : 500MB Ext2, 32MB Swap, remaining Fat32
- Partition SD-card : Only Fat32
- Repair ext filesystem
- Convert ext2 to ext3
- Fix package UID mismatches
- Fix auto-rotate issues
- Toggle USB-Mass storage on and off
- Scripts available via adb :
- BART v0.9.2 (Backup and Restore Tool) : enter "utility" to start.
- switchrom.sh V1.1 : enter "switchrom" to start.
- sdparted v0.5.3 : enter "sdparted" to start.

This very much opens the door to custom ROMs for the Pulse!

We haven't yet found the key combination for starting recovery mode from power-off on the device, so you have to enter recovery by doing either 'adb reboot recovery' or by installing 'Quick Boot' from the market (which is also included in my superboot solution).

Ausprobiert hab ichs nicht - hab ja kein Pulse. Ich geb das also einfach mal so unverändert an euch weiter.

Klingt interessant, aber fast zu leicht um wahr zur sein. Naja vielleicht finden sich ja mit der Zeit leute, die das ausprobieren und uns mitteilen ob es was taugt.

Aus G1-Sicht schon, aber das läuft auch nur ganz normal über fastboot - so wie Magics, Heros und Galaxys auch gerootet werden - und einem winzigen Script im Kernel-Image.

Das Pulse scheint dann wohl werksseitig schon mit einem fastboot-fähigen SPL ausgestattet zu sein. Ich frag mich, wer die Tastenkombination herausgefuddelt hat, um in den fastboot-Modus zu kommen, und wie lange er dazu gebraucht hat...
