[Nexus 6P] Android 7.1 Developer Preview

Google hat gerade eben Android 7.1 offiziell bestätigt. Die erste Developer Preview soll noch im Oktober erscheinen und wird wie auch bei der Vorversion über Android Beta verfügbar sein. Die finale Version wird Anfang Dezember erscheinen.

Einen Changelog hat Google auch passend dazu veröffentlicht:

Android 7.1 delivers the productivity, security, and performance of Android 7.0, along with a variety of optimizations and bug fixes, features, and new APIs (API level 25).

For developers, Android 7.1 adds new capabilities to help you drive engagement in your app and deliver an improved user experience, such as:

• App shortcuts API — lets you surface key actions directly in the launcher and take your users deep into your app instantly. You can create up to 5 shortcuts, either statically or dynamically.
• Circular app icons support — lets you provide great-looking rounded icon resources that match the look of Pixel and other launchers.
• Enhanced wallpaper metadata — lets you provide metadata about your wallpapers to any picker displaying the wallpapers as a preview. You can show existing metadata such as label, description, and author, as well as a new context URL and title to link to more information.

Android 7.1 also adds these much-requested developer features to the platform:

• Image keyboard support — expands the types of content that users can enter from their keyboards, letting them express themselves through custom stickers, animated gifs, and more. Apps can tell the keyboard what types of content they accept, and keyboards can deliver all of the images and other content that they offer to the user. For broad compatibility, this API will also be available in the support library.
• Storage manager Intent — lets an app take the user directly to a new Settings screen to clear unused files and free up storage space on the device.

For carriers and calling apps, the platform includes new APIs to support multi-endpoint calling and new telephony configuration options.

Yupp hab ich gestern schon gelesen und bin wieder ins beta Programm. Hab auch gelesen, das die ersten betas wohl erst im Dezember kommen. Schaun we mal.

Freu mich schon drauf da ja auch der Fingerprint neue Funktionen bekommen soll.

Wieso Dezember? Noch im Oktober erscheint die erste DP-Version von Android 7.1; im Dezember erscheint dann die finale Version in Form von Android 7.1.x

Soweit ich verstehe, werden die Pixel- und 5X/6P-Modelle im Dezember mit Android 7.1.x auf der gleichen Software-Basis sein.

Later this month we’ll be bringing you the Android 7.1 platform as an open Developer Preview, similar to what we did for Android 7.0.

Hab ich auch gerade gelesen. Da lag die Seite, auf der ich das gestern gelesen hab, wohl etwas daneben, oder die meinten die finale Version.

Ein Entwickler von Google hat auf Reddit ein wenig für Klärung gesorgt, warum Android 7.1 bereits jetzt für die Pixel-Modelle verfügbar ist und die Nexus-Modelle erst folgen müssen:

??? nyc-dr1 (marlin/sailfish) isn't that far ahead of nyc-dev (Nexii). Pixel and Nexus will get nyc-mr1 together (modulo any release issues). nyc-dr1 was forked to provide a stable target for a device release.

As a heads up, mrX releases are expensive as they require carrier cert. Google can only push out security updates monthly, not major releases. It's not worth getting nyc-dr1 certified on devices that JUST GOT nyc-dev.

So, you're pissed over a few patches. ok

Bei der Anfangsentwicklung von Android 7.1 hat man zwei parallele Entwicklungen vorgenommen: Die Pixel-Modelle haben die Abspaltung "nyc-dr1" bekommen, damit am Releasetermin eine stabile Android-Umgebung gewährleistet wird. Der gleiche Entwickler hatte schon erwähnt, man habe das Feature "double tap to wake" in "letzter Minute" entfernt. Das Feature wird aber wieder verfügbar sein - ich vermute bei der nächsten Android-Version, die Anfang Dezember erscheinen wird.

Android 7.1.x wird dann als "nyc-mr1" aufgelistet und würde eine gemeinsame Android-Version darstellen, die dann sowohl für die Pixel- als auch für die Nexus-Modelle bereitgestellt wird und eine gleiche Android-Basis bietet.

Man hat es wohl nicht geschafft, Android 7.1 sowohl für die Pixel- als auch die Nexus-Modelle pünktlich bereitzustellen und hat sich bewusst für einen kurzfristigen früheren Release für die Software-Basis der Pixel-Modelle (Google Assistant als Verkaufsargument!) entschieden. Geht man jetzt von dieser Logik aus, müssten die Nexus-Modelle den Google Assistant in der nächsten Android-Version - sprich Anfang Dezember mit Android 7.1.x - bekommen. Bin mal gespannt.

Schauen wir mal ob Deine Vermutung aufgeht. Bin da eher skeptisch

Der Google Assistent ist auch nix, was mich vom Hocker reißen würde. Hab schon Google Now und die OK Google Erkennung deaktiviert, da die häufiger mal ein OK Google gehört hat wo keins war.

Hast Recht, wird wohl nur erstmal den neuen Pixel Phone vorbehalten.
