MWC 2013: HP Slate 7 - Wer braucht diesen günstigen 7-Zoller?

Erinnert ihr euch noch an das letzte Tablet von Hewlett Packard (Stichwort: webOS)? Das traditionsreiche Upstart-Unternehmen startet einen neuen Versuch, mit einem bezahlbaren 7-Zoller, der sich gegen die kostengünstige Konkurrenz von Google und Acer durchsetzen soll. Mit Android 4.1 an Bord ist das Modell mit einem Cortex-A9 1,6GHz Dual-Core-Prozessor und einem Gigabyte RAM ausgestattet. Das Display hat eine Auflösung von 1024x600 Pixeln. Der interne Speicher ist gerade mal 8GB groß, kann aber immerhin mittels microSD-Karte erweitert werden. Die beiden eingebauten Kameras (3MP Rückseite, VGA-Frontkamera) dienen beinahe ebenso wenig als Kaufargument, wie die lizenzierte BeatsAudio-Technologie. Dafür kann das HP Slate 7 exklusiv für sich verbuchen, über die HP ePrint-App zu Verfügen. Für die USA ist der Verkaufsstart für April vorgesehen. Der Preis lautet zunächst $169. An dieser Stelle rechnen wir kurz im Kopf um und fragen uns dann, ob wir dem HP Slate 7 für rund 130€ eine Chance geben würden. Im direkten Vergleich mit dem Nexus 7 kann das neue HP-Tablet in keiner Kategorie mithalten. Prozessor, Speicher (wenngleich erweiterbar) und Displayauflösung, überall macht das Slate 7 Abstriche. Zudem fehlen etliche Zusatzleistungen wie GPS/GLONASS oder NFC. Ob das durch den etwas niedrigeren Preis aufgefangen wird, darf bezweifelt werden. Immerhin sitzt das Iconia Tab B1 von Acer preislich sogar noch darunter und erfreut sich zumindest in unserem Forum großer Beliebtheit. Davon abgesehen ist das Modell in der gewoht hochwertigen HP-Qualität gefertigt, womit es sich dann doch etwas von vielen noch günstigeren Tablets für unter 100€ abhebt.

The HP Slate7 joins the recently introduced HP Chromebook as part of HP's push to offer access to the Google experience.

HP's tablet offerings reside in the company's newly formed Mobility Global Business Unit, established in September 2012 with the hiring of Torres. Torres joined HP from Nokia, where he was executive vice president and oversaw the MeeGo products and platform.

HP Slate7 makes computing easy while on the go

Powered by an ARM Dual Core Cortex-A9 1.6 GHz processor, the HP Slate7 is fast and responsive. Integrated wireless allows customers to access email, the internet and key applications, while the High-aperture-ratio Field Fringe Switching (HFFS) panel offers wide viewing angles that provide easy viewing of documents, games, photos and videos—even in outdoor lighting conditions.

The HP Slate7 includes a 3-megapixel camera on the back and a VGA camera on the front for chatting, videos and photos.

With the HP ePrint (2) application, customers can easily print while at home or on the go, and the exclusive native printing capability enables customers to print directly from most applications. A micro USB port allows customers to easily transfer files, and a suite of applications from HP spans exclusive games to productivity tools.
