After I unlock my device bootloader, am I still eligible to receive software upgrades from Motorola?
Unlocking your bootloader does not affect your eligibility to receive over-the-air (OTA) upgrades from Motorola. Upgrade packages to new versions of Android will be pushed to all eligible devices, regardless of their bootloader locking status.
Nevertheless, there are some cases when the upgrade delivery or upgrade process might fail:
- Applying an OTA upgrade patch might fail if you have modified some components of the original system software, replaced the original kernel with a rooted kernel or made other system modifications. In this case, simply reject the OTA upgrade notification and upgrade your device using a USB cable through Motorola Device Manager (MDM). (Not available for all devices)
- Delivering a software upgrade image to your device will be impossible if you have replaced Motorola's original software with a custom Android ROM. Our upgrades will not be delivered to you, as our OTA software upgrade services have been removed from your device. Some community ROMS do provide alternate OTA or tethered update support.
