Developer Preview zu Android 8.1 veröffentlicht

Wie erwartet hat Google die erste Developer Preview zu Android 8.1 veröffentlicht.

Android 8.1 is an incremental maintenance release of Android Oreo. It includes new features, and APIs (API level 27), along with the latest optimizations, bug fixes, and security updates.

Mitte November folgt die zweite Developer Preview-Version, bevor im Dezember 2017 die finale Version erscheinen wird.

Als Neuerungen nennt Google folgende Inhalte:

Added Neural Networks API

The Neural Networks API (NNAPI) provides apps with hardware acceleration for on-device machine learning operations. The API supports on-device model creation, compilation, and execution. Apps typically do not use NNAPI directly; instead, NNAPI is meant to be called by machine learning libraries, frameworks, and tools that let developers train their models and deploy them on Android devices.

Changes to Notifications

Apps can now only make a notification alert sound once per second. Alert sounds that exceed this rate aren’t queued and are lost. This change doesn’t affect other aspects of notification behavior and notification messages still post as expected.

Improved Targeting for Low-RAM Devices

Android 8.1 (API level 27) adds two new hardware-feature constants, FEATURE_RAM_LOW and FEATURE_RAM_NORMAL, to Package Manager. These constants allow you target the distribution of your apps and APK splits to normal- or low-RAM devices.

These constants enable the Play store to promote a better user experience by highlighting apps especially well-suited to the capabilities of a given device.

Autofill Framework Update

The Developer Preview adds support for custom descriptions that the Android System shows in the autofill save UI instead of the original representation of the data. This is useful, for example, when you want to mask a credit card number and show only the last four digits. To learn more, see the CustomDescription class.

Programmatic Safe Browsing Actions

By using the WebView implementation of the Safe Browsing API, your app can detect when an instance of WebView attempts to navigate to a URL that Google has classified as a known threat. By default, the WebView shows an interstitial, as shown in Figure 1, warning the user of the known threat and giving them the option to load the URL anyway or return to a previous page that’s safe.

Added WallpaperColors API

Android 8.1 Developer Preview (API level 27) adds support for managing wallpaper colors. This feature lets you create a WallpaperColors object from a bitmap, a drawable, or by using the first three most visually representative colors. You can also retrieve details of the first three noticeable colors of a wallpaper.

Fingerprint Updates

The FingerprintManager class has introduced the following error codes:

FINGERPRINT_ERROR_LOCKOUT_PERMANENT – The user has tried too many times to unlock their device using the fingerprint reader.
FINGERPRINT_ERROR_VENDOR – A vendor-specific fingerprint reader error occurred.

Ich habe sie heute morgen per OTA bekommen.
Ich merke einen erhöhten Akku Verbrauch, ist das bei euch auch so?

Ich habe bisher bei jeder Installation einer neuen Version einen erhöhten Akkuverbrauch bemerkt - das dauert immer ein wenig, bis sich das wieder einpendelt.

Bei mir sieht alles ganz normal aus. Bei 100% abgezogen, Update installiert und jetzt noch 37% bei knapp 4std DOT.

Dafür ging bei mir bisher jeder Versuch des Updates auf 8.1 schief.

bei mir auch - das Update läuft durch und zum Schluß kommt dann "Installations Fehler".

Laut XDA muss man seinen bootloader schließen, das Update flashen und wieder entsperren.

Macht keinen Unterschied, zweimal geschlossen, zweimal offen versucht, beides Mal nach dem Reboot "das war nichts."

Installation lief bei mir absolut problemlos nur hatte ich danach ein paar Apps die sich immer wieder und teilweise reproduzierbar geschlossen haben. Erst nach dem Löschen der kompletten Daten der Apps haben die wieder normal funktioniert. Darunter waren z. B. der PlayStore, Google, etc.

Bei mir reagiert ab 8.1 das Pixel nicht mehr auf "OK Google". Die entsprechenden Optionen sind allerdings aktiviert.

Laut Pixel Community hat Google eine neue Version auf die OTA Server gestellt und tatsächlich hat es jetzt funktioniert. Update lief problemlos durch.

Sonst noch Problemchen festgestellt?
Ich überlege noch ob ich es installieren soll, da ich bei der DevPrev von 8.0 einige Problemchen hatte...

Ich habe 8.1 seit es raus ist letzte Woche auf meinem XL. Hatte bis gestern auch immer wieder App Schließungen. Habe gestern Abend dann mal einen Werksreset gemacht. Und seit dem keine Probleme mehr. Läuft.....

Bei mir auf dem XL läuft 8.1. auch total rund. Auch ohne Reset o.ä. laufen alle meine Apps.

In der System UI ist es nicht zu finden, aber unter Display -> Advanced -> Ambient Display

Oh sorry aber ich glaube, ich verwechsel da gerade Ambient Display und Always ON.

Bei mir hat die Aktualisierung auch ohne Probleme funktioniert.
Aufgefallen sind mir folgende Änderungen:
- die Display Helligkeit regelt nun dunkler
- das Telefon regiert bei mir gefüllt schneller wie zuvor
- der Akku Verbrauch ist etwas besser, Weigl durch die geänderte Display Helligkeit
